This is an experience you won’t soon forget. It is worth seeing this movie once again. A mother on the brink of tragedy is perfectly conveyed by Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow portrays the story’s light, Jason Miller embodies a man who has lost, and Linda Blair, even at her young age, is far above average. However, the cast deserves a hand for their outstanding performances. I was blown away by how touching and powerful it was. You should see this film at least twice if you’re a fan of smart, clever, meaningful horror dramas.

Rather than being anti-religion, this movie is anti-evil. Through this film, the audience is taken into the darkest recesses of humanity and is ultimately brought back to hope and self-sacrifice. Instead of just a bunch of lamebrains lined up for slaughter, it has CHARACTERS. There is something beautiful and bold about this monster of a drama. Those who complain that this film is too slow are the kind who only like 80-minute splatter flicks with characters who are so stupid and one-sided that you pray for the bad guy to kill them. Karras is incredulous but the church eventually agrees calling in Father Merrin, who has previously conducted an exorcism and come face to face with the devil. As Regan’s situation reaches crisis proportions – she has to be tied to her bed, swears like a sailor and speaks in tongues – Chris turns to Father Karras, a Roman Catholic priest and psychiatrist to see if an exorcism might be the solution to their problem. She undergoes various neurological tests but doctors can find nothing to explain her behavior. Mother and daughter have a good relationship but after a time Regan begins to act strangely.
